What is Hortelã da Ribeira – Serra da Estrela?

A refuge.
Transformed into rural tourism.

A terraced farm, located in the beautiful Serra da Estrela Natural Park, a UNESCO World Geopark. Located 20 km from Covilhã and 3 km from Cortes do Meio, 1.5 km from Bouça – Mountain Villages and just 8 km from Torre (top of Serra da Estrela and highest point in mainland Portugal. Quinta Hortelã da Ribeira takes with Ribeira de Cortes and is immediately after the village of Bouça. From here, you can follow the road from Cortes do Meio to Penhas da Saúde (EM508-EN339), thus providing the best and most beautiful access to the top of Serra da Estrela!

It all started with an agricultural project, with the planting of walnut trees, strawberry trees and some fruit trees – persimmon, cherry, plum, pomegranate, fig, mulberry, among others.
After that, the reuse of an old stone structure, which was used to house cattle, made it possible to realize the dream of developing this refuge, in one of the most beautiful and privileged natural landscapes in the center of the country.

Now, we open the door to all those who are nature lovers and want to discover and get to know Serra da Estrela!

Overview

Located in Serra da Estrela, in the heart of the Unesco geopark, Quinta Hortelã da Ribeira is located next to the villages of Montanha – Cortes do Meio and Bouça. The Ribeira de Cortes, known for the beauty of its Natural Pools, runs through the Quinta. Penhas da Saúde is just a few minutes away.

The Quinta accommodates up to 10 people, in two houses. Both have a full kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining area, Wi-Fi, TV and AC. All double rooms have a bathroom, among other amenities.

Relax outdoors, on one of the balconies or on the terrace, overlooking the valley and Ribeira de Cortes and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
Enjoy the natural pools in spring/summer, enjoy the hiking trails in autumn and the snow in winter.

House Rules

The Farm is in the middle of the mountain and has direct (and private) access to Ribeira de Cortes, so supervision of children is necessary.

(excl. barbecue);
– Rearranging furniture is not permitted, with the exception of single rooms (beds);
